Greek Climate Change Adaptation Information Hub

Tool/methodology name:

The "LIFE-IP AdaptInGR – Boosting the implementation of adaptation policy across Greece" project aims to enhance Greece's resilience to climate change. Coordinated by the Ministry of Environment and Energy, the project is implemented in collaboration with 18 strategic partners, including central administration, local governments, academia, and NGOs. The project supports the Greek Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change, focusing on several key areas:

  • The development of climate projections and open data tools, and the creation of the National Climate Change Adaptation Information Hub provide improved access to crucial information for planning and implementing adaptation measures.
  • The project conducts training seminars for public service executives in the Greek regions, enhancing their ability to implement adaptation policies effectively.
  • It establishes a framework for monitoring, evaluating, and updating climate change adaptation policies and actions, ensuring they remain effective and relevant.
  • The project promotes local planning and implements pilot adaptation actions in climate change across 3 Greek regions and 5 municipalities.
  • Guidelines are developed for adapting landscapes, archaeological sites, and historical monuments to climate change impacts.
  • The project shares best practices within Greece, the Eastern Mediterranean, and the EU, fostering broader adoption of successful adaptation strategies.
  • It undertakes actions to inform and raise awareness among youth, and implements educational programs for teachers, trainers, and students about climate change.
  • The project optimizes European and Greek resources and tools for implementing adaptation actions, covering the programming period 2021-2027.

Description

Informative - educational material

Educators and trainers can freely download and use the " Educator's Guide and Teaching Materials on Climate Change Adaptation " designed by the LIFE-IP AdaptInGR project. This educational package can be used in environmental education programs. This material is aimed to equip teachers and trainers with the necessary scientific knowledge and the appropriate tools to integrate this major topic into their curriculum. The first part of the package consists of a guide that provides the theoretical framework around the concepts of climate change, mitigation, and adaptation. Then, activities are presented, through which, the students/learners/trainees are invited to collaborate and propose solutions for adapting to the new climate conditions.

"Youth adapts" campaign

As part of this project and during the "Youth adapts" campaign, educational material will be developed for young students, and distributed to selected schools in Greece. The campaign will be monitored for its performance and effectiveness so that its overall design and implementation can be refined. Over time, material aimed at older age groups will be adapted to form part of adult programs for lifelong environmental education. Educators will be able to keep up to date with all developments regarding "Youth Adapts" and download the material that will be developed.
